Call-In Hiring Events: What to Know and How to Prepare
Looking for work in retail merchandising, resets, or fixture installation? You don’t have to fill out a long online application and wait to hear back. Our Call-In Hiring Events let you skip the line and talk directly to a recruiter on the spot, so you can learn about open roles in a single phone call.
Channel Partners provides a full suite of retail solutions for brands and retailers. People are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re always on the lookout for the best people to join our field teams, handling the sets and installs that make stores look right.
What’s a Call-In Hiring Event?
It’s a set window of time, on a set day, when our recruiters are standing by to take calls from job seekers. Instead of submitting an application and hoping someone calls you back, you call us.
There’s no online form to fill out before you dial. You’ll give the recruiter your basic contact info, talk about the work you’ve done, and ask whatever questions you have. It’s a conversation, not a test.
If there’s a fit, your recruiter will walk you through the next steps. That may include a short application or sending your resume, but you’ll already have talked to a person who knows your name.
How to join the next event
- Text JOBS to (844) 786-0603 to get a heads-up before each event, or watch our social channels. We post every Call-In Hiring Event ahead of time, with the date and call window.
- When the window opens, call (813) 712-2525, ext. 2.
- Have a look at our jobs map for openings near you before you call.
We hold these events often, so if you miss one, another is coming.
What Kind of Work Is This?
Our field teams work inside major retail stores, usually before or after shopping hours. The roles we hire for during call-in events include:
- Reset merchandisers: Move, remove, and restock products to match a new store layout, called a planogram or POG.
- Fixture and display installers: Build and install shelving, endcaps, signage, and branded displays.
- Steel racking and assembly techs: Assemble and install racking, gondolas, and heavier store fixtures.
- Retail merchandisers: Keep displays stocked, set to plan, and looking sharp between resets.
Pay, schedule, travel, and requirements vary by role and location. Your recruiter will walk you through the details for the roles that fit you, so you know what you’re signing up for.
What a typical reset looks like: The team arrives at the store, reviews the planogram for the new layout, and pulls product off the shelves. Next comes moving or installing fixtures, then restocking every item in its new spot and checking the work against the plan. It’s physical, hands-on work, and you can see what you accomplished at the end of every shift.
Don’t Think You’re Qualified? Think Again.
No experience in retail? Tell the recruiter what you have done. Warehouse work, construction, stocking, and hands-on trade jobs build a lot of the same skills.
Here’s how experience from other jobs carries over to field work:
- Warehouse and stocking: Organizing product quickly, reading labels and locations, and staying on your feet for a full shift.
- Construction and the trades: Using hand and power tools, reading measurements and drawings, and assembling heavy pieces safely.
- Retail and grocery: Knowing how a store runs, facing and stocking shelves, and working around shoppers and store staff.
- Restaurants and hospitality: Moving fast on a deadline, staying organized when things get busy, and working as part of a crew.
- Delivery and driving: Showing up on time, managing your own schedule, and getting the job done without someone looking over your shoulder.
- Military service: Following detailed plans, paying attention to small details, and working as a team to hit a goal.
If you’ve ever done a spot-the-difference puzzle or checked a delivery against its packing slip, you already know the basics of reading a planogram. It’s a diagram of how the shelf should look, plus a line-by-line list of every item and its UPC. Your job is to spot what’s missing, what’s out of place, and what shouldn’t be there.
When you call, tell the recruiter about the work you’ve done, even if it wasn’t in retail. They’ll help you connect the dots.
Why Calling In Works in Your Favor
An online application turns you into a list of dates and job titles. On the phone, you get to explain your experience in your own words, ask questions as they come up, and let the recruiter hear how you’d handle a conversation with a store manager.
You don’t have to be great at writing a resume to be great at this job. Plenty of strong installers and merchandisers are better at the work than at describing it on paper. If you talk better than you write, this format is built for you. And if you trip over a word or two, that’s fine. Recruiters are listening for experience and attitude, not a polished speech.
It’s also faster. You skip the wait between applying and hearing back, and you’ll know a lot more about the role by the time you hang up.
Even if a specific role isn’t the right fit, the call still counts. Your recruiter has your info and knows your background, so you can hear about the next opening that matches your skills.
4 Ways to Make the Most of Your Call
You don’t need to over-prepare. A few minutes of setup will help you feel confident when the recruiter picks up.
- Get to know us first. Spend five minutes on our website and social channels before you call. You’ll have a better sense of what we do, and it shows the recruiter you took the call seriously. Check our jobs map too, so you know which roles are open in your area before you dial.
- Have a short answer ready for “tell me about yourself.” You don’t need a script. Aim for about 30 seconds on what you’ve done and why this work appeals to you. Be yourself, and keep it professional.
- Name the work you’ve done. Be specific. If you’ve done resets, display installs, steel racking, merchandising, POG or schematic work, or fixture assembly, say so by name. It helps the recruiter match you to the right role quickly.
- Have your details handy. Your full name, email, and phone number get you into our system so the recruiter can follow up after the call. If you have a resume, keep it handy in case they ask for it (it’s not required), and have a pen and paper to write down their name and next steps.
What Happens After the Call
Here’s what the process usually looks like once you hang up:
- The recruiter reviews your info. They match your experience to open roles in your area.
- We follow up fast. Our recruiters reach out as soon as possible by call, text, or email.
- You get the details. If there’s a fit, your recruiter walks you through next steps, including pay, schedule, and your first assignment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need retail experience to call? No. Experience with resets, installs, or merchandising helps, but so does warehouse, construction, or other hands-on work. Tell the recruiter what you’ve done and they’ll let you know where you might fit.
Do I have to fill out an application first? No. You don’t need an application to get on the call. If there’s a fit, your recruiter will explain any paperwork that comes next.
Is this a formal interview? No. It’s a conversation with a recruiter about your experience and the roles we have open. Talk the way you would with a supervisor on the job.
What if the line is busy? Keep trying. Lines can get busy during an event, especially right when the window opens. Hang up, give it a minute, and call again.
